Mary Poppins, the world famous nanny, has blown in on the east winds and landed center stage at The Fabulous Fox Theatre This beloved tale of the dysfunctional Banks family and their super-nanny, Mary Poppins will be showing through Aug. 30 at the Fox, starring the original Broadway stars Ashley Brown and Gavin Lee, as Mary Poppins and Bert, respectively.

On-campus venue begins new season

The Billiken Club is revving up for a new year of performances. Located inside Salsarita's on the ground floor of the Busch Student Center, The Billiken Club regularly showcases national and local bands on the rise. "The Billiken Club is known for booking kind of before the curve bands," Sanita Saengvilay, one of three managers of The Billiken Club, said.

SLU string ensemble set to perform and expand

The Saint Louis University string orchestra, in conjunction with the Cancer Center and Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, will be hosting "No Strings Attached," a rehearsal and reading of SLU's newly expanding string orchestra. This event is open to any undergraduate student, graduate student and faculty member who has at least three years of experience playing the violin, viola, cello or bass.

New York-based rock group set to take the world by storm

Jupiter One wants to take fans back in time, with a modern twist, of course. The New York-based rock group combined their various musical talents in 2004 and have been playing together ever since. "We all started off as an instrumental group . . . It didn't really start off as a rock band," K Ishibashi, the band's lead vocalist, said.

Professor and Playwright brings show to SLU

Gitana, Inc., a local organization dedicated to provide global aid and awareness through art, is producing a play entitled, "My Heart is Always Shaking," about the trials of two female Afghani refugees in St. Louis. Lee Patton Chiles, professor at Saint Louis University, wrote the play based on her experiences with a group of woman she met in 2007.

New play explores what makes a life worth living well

The Saint Louis University Theatre Department is ending its 2008-2009 season in cooperation with the St. Louis Actors' Studio with a production of playwright Bertol Brecht's classic morality play, "The Good Person of Setzuan." A show that challenges the viewer and asks what it means to be a good person in a world full of evil.

On the night of April 24, Students Activity Board of Saint Louis University hosted its annual spring concert featuring Lifehouse. Despite the beautiful weather and free admission, the event attracted a relatively small crowd of students. "I was surprised the crowd was as small as it was because Lifehouse is a pretty well-known band.

Last weekend, a production at The Fabulous Fox Theatre welcomed local audiences back the '60s and did it in style. "Hairspray," the Tony Award- winning Broadway musical, came to St. Louis as a part of touring production, bringing with it all the catchy songs, deliciously overblown set design and towering hair that the show-originally adapted from director John Water's decidedly more nihilistic film of the same name from 1988-has come to be known for since opening in 2002.
