Imagine walking into a foreign place, greeted not with embraces or kind words, but instead with a command to get out. When I arrived in Rome's Fiumicino airport in January, the first Italian word I learned was "uscita," meaning exit. Isn't it strange that the first word one learns at the beginning of a journey is a word that means "to leave"? I had just arrived in Rome and the signs were already demanding that I go.

As graduation looms ever closer, 2008 Saint Louis University graduates are feeling the pressure of the job market as they plan to enter the "real world."

In the midst of a declining economy and increasing prices, obtaining that first job out of college may be more intimidating than in previous years, but Kim Reitter, director of Career Services, isn't seeing any drastic changes in the employment of SLU students.

Gay, lesbian and bisexual people are everywhere. They're your classmates, co-workers, teachers, friends and family members. If you don't already know this, you will find out eventually. Saint Louis University supports its GLBT students, and groups like Rainbow Alliance will make thier presence known.

Four incredible years: Four years full of laughs, tears and great surprises. Four years during which I learned more about life than I ever would have imagined. When I decided to come to Saint Louis University, I was looking for more than the typical weekend frat party or an "A" on a test; I was looking for a place to define myself.

My favorite part of The University News has always been the "Senior Farewell" page in each year's final issue. Each year, as I read columns of carefully prepared advice, the insightful stories and the occasional, hastily scribbled odes to college life, I would take mental notes so that I could one day create the ultimate "Senior Farewell."

This year's ambitious Spring Fever concert, themed "Rock, Rap, and Rawhide," featured five admirable acts from a variety of genres. The proceedings got underway at the new Chaifitz Arena promptly at 6 p.m.

First up was Tyler Hilton. Hilton plays an acoustic pop style-think John Mayer before his blues-rock phase-that is unlikely to offend.

No matter where the young actress' career goes, it's close to certain that Emma Stone will never be able to erase her label as the girl who received a drunken head butt from Jonah Hill in Superbad. Despite the slapstick humor stigma that precedes Stone, it is clear that she doesn't have to rely on head butts or sexual gags to solidify her place in Hollywood.

Starting baseball pitcher Scott Turmail tossed a complete game Saturday, April 26, giving up three earned runs and one walk in the Billikens' 5-3 loss to George Washington University. Turmail's achievement came in the first game of a double-header, saving the Saint Louis University bullpen for the second match-up of the day.

Approximately 1,000 people came together. Many volunteered time and resources. People happily put hundreds of hours of preparation into a track meet that helped raise money for medical expenses. And, why? HOPE. That's why. People gathered, volunteered, donated and prepared because we want a reason to hope, and Brigette Schutzman (a SLU sophomore and student-athlete who was severely injured in a car accident in December) gave it to us.

Your editorial from Friday, April 18 ("Core Beliefs"), articulated an aspect of Saint Louis University Catholic identity and Jesuit mission. It offers unique educational experience not found in most other institutions. And this is why, as your editorial stated, "theology and philosophy requirements should not come as a surprise.

I recently found out that a survey conducted here at Saint Louis University ("Perceptions of Fraternities and Sororities at Saint Louis University-Fall 2007") reported that the sororities and fraternities on campus have developed a poor image, particularly in the eyes of those who are not a part of the Greek community.
