Baseball has six straight road games
The Saint Louis University baseball team will be on the road for the next six games of the season, taking place Saturday, April 12, to Sunday, April 13, with a three-game set against Rhode Island. The Rams enter the weekend with a 4-5 mark in conference play (11-19 overall) and lead the all-time series 3-2.
In its most recent game, the team defeated the Bradley Braves, 3-2, on Wednesday, April 9. Freshman right-hander George Hebert allowed only three hits in six innings from the mound. J.D. Dunn delivered a pair of RBIs and Ryan Bennett had two hits and scored twice to lift the Billikens to their seventh win in nine tries on their home diamond.
Soccer downs Tulsa, 2-1, in opener
The Billikens defeated Tulsa, 2-1, in its men's soccer spring opener at Robert R. Hermann Stadium. SLU scored both goals in the first half from junoirs Kyle Patterson and Brandon Barklage.
"I am pleased we were able to start our spring schedule with a win against a good opponent," Head Coach Dan Donigan said. "We saw good things from a variety of individuals, and certainly there are some things we need to clean up, but all in all it was a good effort being our first match of the spring season."
The Billikens continue their spring exhibition season in two weeks when they welcome UMKC on April 19.
Patterson, Grazier garner honors
Patterson was named the SLU men's soccer Most Valuable Player on April 4 at the annual awards banquet at the Anheuser-Busch Conference Center. Patterson helped the Bills to a 12-2-5 record during the fall season, the Atlantic 10 Conference regular-season championship and the program's 44th berth into the NCAA Tournament.
Senior midfielder Brian Grazier (Edwardsville, Ill.) received the Mark Demling Award as the individual who put the team first and foremost and gave everything he had to the team. In January, Grazier was drafted by the Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer.
