Senators not only attend weekly meetings, but meet with at least two committees each week to discuss student issues pertaining to their group. Sophomore Dan Finucane, a SGA residence hall senator for Marguerite and Notre Dame, is on the Social Justice Committee and Residential Affairs Committee. Finucane said one resolution the Social Justice Committee came up with last year was designating a day of prayer on campus, and he says he is looking forward to the meetings he will have within the senate, as well as with the residence halls he represents.
"Outside of working with the committees and other Senate issues, I plan to meet with the campus ministers, the hall coordinators and assistant hall coordinators from Marguerite and Notre Dame each month. We will just meet to discuss different issues that have come up in the res halls and make sure everyone is on the same page."
Students wishing to get involved with SGA are encouraged to attend Senate meetings each Wednesday as well as read through the minutes of the meetings on SGA's website.
"I strongly encourage students to get to know their senators, attend SGA meetings or view them on SLU TV, read the UNews regularly for updates, check out our minutes after meetings at sga.slu.edu, and utilize the SLUConnection that we'll be unveiling September 13. You don't have to be a senator to be a part of SGA; it's senate's job to represent you through SGA, so be sure you're adequately represented by staying engaged in what's going on," Howard said.
