Terra Ve expansion boasts larger convenience store and more seating

Renovations from this summer, aiming to provide students with better dining options, have left campus dining facilities with a new look. Terra Ve, located in the basement of Clemens Hall, is in the final stages of renovations that the university began this summer.
Terra Ve expanded to include the space that SLU TV occupied before relocating to the Busch Student Center in spring 2007.
The area is now filled with a set of dining tables, and new paint and carpet add to the physical appearance of the restaurant.
Also, the space where the dining tables used to be is now being used as a health food convenience store where students can purchase organic and other healthy options with flex dollars.
"Our students will have good options of healthier snacks and meals all the time," said Chartwells Resident District Manager Fred Wencel. SGA Food Service Committee Chair Ben Yorke added that the decision to expand Terra Ve was based on student input.
"They had to shut down during the lunch rush because they didn't have enough refrigerator space," said Yorke. Excess food from Terra Ve had to be stored in refrigerators at Griesedieck Hall and carried to the restaurant.
The Terra Ve expansion now gives the restaurant more space to store, prepare and serve meals. Students are provided with more dining space in the restaurant, and will soon enjoy music while eating, as new electrical wiring was a component of the renovations.
The Griesedieck Dining Center was also renovated this summer. Residents can now enter the cafeteria directly from the residence hall.
The doors that separated the cafeteria from the back entrance to Griesedieck Hall have been removed, and the meal-swipe station placed in a different location so that students may enter from either inside or outside the residence hall.
A gate was also installed, separating the front area of the dining center from the area where the food is served. This way, the front area will be open for students to study in after the food service is over the day, following the model of the Grand Market Place.
