The implementation of the new Banner-based time card system is in its last phase this week. Banner is part of the Gateway Project, a three-year plan for a "University-wide reorganization of administration systems," begun in Dec. 2002, said Barb Coleman, the administrator of the customer service center of Information Technology Services (ITS).
Student workers are now required to enter their hours online in order to receive their checks. Workers must visit the web URL https://fsselfserv.slu.edu in order to set up their accounts and be able to log hours. In order to set up accounts, students must have a current Saint Louis University ID with their nine-digit identification number in the lower left-hand corner and must also know their WebPro PIN number. Detailed instructions can be found on the frequently asked questions page at http://www.slu.edu/readstory/newslink/5057.
"If you don't see a time sheet, talk to your immediate supervisor," said Coleman. "If they don't know, talk to your department business manager, since they fill out all the forms for payroll."
Coleman encouraged students to check the FAQ page before calling ITS.
"On average, we get about 750 to 800 calls a week," she said. "There were more than 600 on Tuesday alone."
Coleman attributed the unnaturally large amount of calls to the Banner implimentation.
There are many groups and organizations that will not be making the transition to Banner, said Marcia McBride, payroll manager. Full and part-time faculty, graduate assistants and housekeeping staff are not required to use Banner. In addition, any organizations currently using the Unitime system will not use Banner either. These include the Department of Housing and Residence Life, Facilities Services, Campus Recreation and the Department of Public Safety.
In addition, Kathy Humphrey, vice-president of Student Development, is requiring organizations under her department to continue to fill out paper records of work hours plus using the new system, according to Cheryl Kaufman of the Department of Student Development. Humphrey was unavailable for comment.
Any students that haven't set up their Banner accounts need to as soon as possible, said Coleman.
"Don't wait-Friday is the end of the pay period," she said.
