Last week Stephanie Adams, area coordinator for Notre Dame and Marguerite Halls in the First Year Experience Program at Saint Louis University, resigned due to personal reasons, according to Deanna Kauffman, assistant director of Housing and Residence Life.
Kauffman, a supervisor of the position, will oversee any administrative duties of Adams' position until a replacement is found. She also said that the opening would soon be posted through Human Resources.
"We're going to search for a replacement for Stephanie," Kauffman said. "It's not unusual to have staff vacancies from time to time. We're going to fill it as soon as possible."
As one of three area coordinators for first-year residence halls, it was Adams' job to supervise the professional staff of both buildings, as well as to meet the needs of freshman students throughout their first year at SLU.
Adams came to SLU in the summer of 2003 and has been the FYE area coordinator since that time. Kauffman was optimistic about the void left by Adams.
"Students hopefully won't notice a blip on the radar screen," she said.
The FYE program, under the direction of Leanna Fenneberg, Ph.D., has been in existence since 2001.
Through the FYE program, freshman students adjust to college living with the help of staff and students. The FYE program organizes services such as Oriflamme, University 101 and SLU 101.
According to Kauffman, the program will continue to run in Adams' absence and should encounter no troubles as a result her absence. Kauffman also stressed that Adams' position as area coordinator for Notre Dame and Marguerite is not as integral a part of FYE as it is of the Department of Housing and Residence Life.
