Exhibit celebrates posthumous work

When the team at the Saint Louis University Museum of Art began working with painter Max R. Scharf on a new exhibition of his work, they never could have imagined the tragic turn ahead. "He died of cancer," Petruta Lipan, director of University Museum and Galleries, said.

The Missouri Botanical Garden is welcoming a St. Louis tradition this weekend. "We've been hosting the Japanese festival for over 30 years," Karen Hagenow, Public Information Officer for the Missouri Botanical Gardens, said. "It really has kind of taken on what it's been known as ever since our Japanese garden was built and dedicated in 1977.

Soulful folk pop group Star & Micey will be performing three shows in St. Louis on Sept. 17, 19 and 20, one at MoKaBe's Coffee House on Arsenal Street, right in Saint Louis University's backyard. Contemporary separates art from explanation

The Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis is hosting an opening night for its new exhibition on Friday, Sept.11. The new exhibit, For the blind man in the dark room looking for the black cat that isn't there, running until Jan. 3, is a show made up of works by 20 different artists from all around the world, including Dave Hullfish Bailey, Sarah Crowner, Ayse Erkman and more.

The Saint Louis University Cancer Center is joining forces with an unlikely ally. "A Summer Evening of Music," a concert and reception on Thursday, Sept. 10 from 5 to 6 p.m., will be held at the SLU Cancer Center, featuring a performance by the string quartet from the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra.

Students are in high demand at The Pulitzer Foundation of the Arts. The museum, located in the Grand Center arts district, is looking for groups of students, usually no more than eight, interested in participating in the museum's newly revamped Exploring Art workshops as a part of their new exhibition, "Ideal (Dis-) Placements: Old Masters at the Pulitzer.

St. Louis is getting a little extra flavor this weekend. The International Institute of St. Louis, a foundation dedicated to providing outreach and assistance to the local immigrant community is throwing the Festival of Nations this Saturday and Sunday in Tower Grove Park.

Comedy act bring laughs to SLU

On Monday night, to a packed crowd in the Busch Student Center ballrooms, the Student Activities Board kicked off Welcome Week Celebrations with a stand up act by comedian Jeff Heffron. Heffron was the winner of the second season of NBC's reality competition "Last Comic Standing.
